A long lasting paint job starts with good prep work, in good weather, with top of
the line materials.
There are always two reasons to paint something; for the looks and for protection.
We will talk about the long lasting paint job.
Preparation:
Power washing is very important to be done in order to remove dirt and kill mildew.
We allow a minimum of 5 days, good weather, prior to sanding after a power wash.
The siding is sanded in the same direction of the grain. The area being sanded should
be complete or to the next joint or break (eg. a frame of a window or door, fascia
board, etc.).
If the sanded area of a wall covers more than 75%, in most cases it is recommended
to be removed completely. There is a good chance the left over will show the same
defects in a couple of years.
Painting:
The surface should be dust free prior priming. I personally prefer the oil based
primer stain.
Finish coats could be applied by a combination of roller and brush, spray, or brush
alone.
The disposal of cans and mineral spirits should comply with your local laws and regulations.
